Pianist Steven Osborne, violinist Nicola Benedetti, harpsichord/director Jonathan Cohen are just some of the 1,600 of the countless award-winning chamber musicians, orchestral leaders, singers and soloists that launched their professional careers on the Lake District Music stage.
Brainchild of our late Founder and lifelong Artistic Director, Renna Manduell MBE (nee Kellaway), that is an incredible legacy 40-years in the making.
As we look to the future, we wanted to make sure that emerging artists continue to receive the support, skills and critical career launchpads they so desperately deserve. That is why, on the eve of Lake District Music’s 40th anniversary, we have launched a new fund in memory of our Founder to secure a bright future for the next generation.
Double your donation
For a limited time only, we are delighted to announce that any donation made to the Renna Kellaway Emerging Artists Fund before the 2025 festival closes on 10th August will be matched by the N F Wilson Trust.
That means that all donations made before the deadline will be doubled, having twice the impact.

“It was an incredible experience which we gained a lot from as a quartet. The week was fast paced which was great and the many varied venues were a wonderful way of getting to know the lakes. We enjoyed learning from the musicians who were conducting the masterclasses as well as the many others we met and listened to at concerts ”
Heartwood Quartet (2022 resident ensemble)
“I was lucky enough to attend the LDM course as a student… We had the opportunity to work with incredible musicians in the beautiful surroundings. My friends & colleagues at the time have all gone on to forge impressive career paths: Guy Johnston (cello soloist), Donald Grant (violinist, Elias quartet), Gabriella Swallow (cellist), Magnus Johnston (violinist, Navarra quartet). The chamber music coaching we received at LDM was what gave us the inspiration & fire to believe we could make a life from doing this.”
Rakhi Singh (Music Director-Manchester Collective)

“Playing at LDM was a fantastic experience for us, and one which greatly enhanced our development as an ensemble. We had only been playing together for a year by the time of the festival, and it was our first opportunity as a group to present two separate concert programmes to a full audience. It taught us a lot about the level of preparation and focus required, and provided us with a broad repertoire base to which we have often returned subsequently – for example the Smetana Trio which we learnt for the festival, not the most standard repertoire, we have performed three times very recently!”
