We are very excited to announce the provisional dates of our 2021 summer festival from Friday 30 July - Sunday 8 August.

As we continue to respond to ongoing guidance we are optimistic for the future and look forward to welcoming you to a re-designed 2021 festival.

Outstanding artists with new ventures, new venues, new works and new ways to experience the Lake District are all part of this year’s programme.

From the Albion String Quartet, cellist Robert Cohen and groundbreaking Manchester Collective, to artist visualisations, wind ensembles, Balkan folk music, and song recitals from local star contralto Jess Dandy; there's a huge range to see and hear.

Featuring the music of Walton and Brahms, our exceptional masterclass series, workshops for all incorporating live art, film and drama, plus a special celebration of our founder Renna Kellaway, we simply can't wait!

Watch this space for the launch of our full line up later this Spring.

Most of all I am looking forward to welcoming you to my first festival as we begin a new era in the Lake District.

Stephen Threlfall
Artistic Director

Welcome to Lake District Summer Music, our international arts festival based in the Southern Lake District with chamber music at its heart. Each year, LDSM hosts over 40 events in stunning, intimate venues in locations such as Kendal, Windermere, Ambleside, Grange-Over-Sands and Ulverston. Events feature internationally-acclaimed artists from the classical music field, concerts nurturing and showcasing emerging musical talent, unique artist collaborations, award-winning film screenings, world premieres including LDSM commissions, and large-scale choral works involving our excellent local societies.

Keeping abreast of changing tastes and trends, we explore new possibilities whether they be artistic or geographical. We strive to ensure our programme is as engaging and inclusive as possible.

Thank you to all our audiences and artists that made the 35th Festival a huge success. Unfortunately our 2020 festival has been cancelled due to the ongoing Coronavirus situation but we hope to see you in 2021.
