Shostakovich: triumph over tyranny

Spend a whole day immersed in the music of Shostakovich and learn more about his life and works.

While Shostakovich’s music is often seen through his symphonies and his quartets, his vocal music deserves more attention, and this lunchtime concert sets his work alongside music that influenced him. It also looks beyond onto the impact he has had in turn on the younger generation of Russian composers, with Elena Firsova’s 1996 Mandelstam setting.
