Shostakovich: triumph over tyranny

Spend a whole day immersed in the music of Shostakovich and learn more about his life and works.

The monumental structure and scale of Beethoven’s Grosse Fuge led to its excision from the Op.130 and standing on its own. Its use of formal models is echoed in Shostakovich’s 3rd Quartet, with its miraculous use of counterpoint. The Brodsky Quartet is closely associated with Shostakovich, and its 2016 live recording of the Quartet cycle has received exceptional reviews.

This concert is dedicated to the memory of Margaret and Derrick Johnson.
