When he wrote The Marriage of Figaro, Mozart created an unforgettable work about love and desire and the primal force of uncontrollable passion. Director Sven-Eric Bechtolf presents this storm of emotions in the very model of an English stately home of the 1920s, inspired by the setting and furnishings of Downton Abbey. Split-level action provides the opportunity to see into a number of rooms, and more importantly, what other characters are doing – and they are usually up to no good. Peeping through keyholes, incessant eavesdropping, furtive snooping and rifling through others’ property are all part of daily life chez Almaviva. With Luca Pisaroni (Count Almaviva), Anett Fritsch (Countess Almaviva), Martina Janková (Susanna), Adam Plachetka (Figaro) and Ann Murray (Marcellina). Filmed live in August 2015. Sung in Italian with English subtitles.
