Tchaikovsky Piano Trio in A minor, Op.50 46½’

In the Goulds’ two concerts (see also Wed 9th) we remember that Haydn was not only the Father of the string quartet but also made a vital contribution to the trio repertoire, with his 40 or so works tracing the keyboard’s development across 37 years from harpsichord to fortepiano to pianoforte. LDSM audience members with a good memory will recall that Mark Simpson first came to LDSM in 2007, fresh from his BBC Young Musician and Proms Young Composer wins. We are delighted to celebrate his phenomenal career in the intervening years with this new work, written to celebrate the Trio’s 25th anniversary and inspired by the work of photographer Richard Avedon
