“…York Bowen is a lovely composer. LDSM should include his music every year!… Bliss was amazing…” Audience members 2014

The spirit of Lionel Tertis hovers over the programming of viola recitals, with so many works that he premiered, commissioned or championed, but this programme has additional ties: not only were the Bliss and York Bowen written for him, but Roger Chase is Tertis’s former student and he plays one of Tertis’s violas, an instrument made by Stradivarius’s pupil, Domenico Montagnana. Schumann is a strand of this year’s programmes, and the second half of the programme focuses on the German Romantic aesthetics of forests and fairytales.
