A rare break in the Proms season allows us to welcome two principal players from the BBC Symphony Orchestra, harpist Sioned Williams and flautist Michael Cox. Joined by Garfield Jackson, their beautifully crafted programme of French and British music opens with Bax's response to the casualties across both the English and Irish channels. With "Should one laugh or cry? Perhaps both at the same time", Debussy expressed his deep anguish when he described his Sonata.
