Bartók Divertimento for Strings

Since 1985, the Serenade by Candlelight has always been a central and unique event as part of the LDSM International Festival programme. It presents young musicians and ensembles alongside the renowned artists and tutors at our International Summer Music Academy.

LDSM Young Artists

LDSM Young Artist events present some of the hugely talented emerging professionals attending our International Summer Music Academy which annually attracts musicians from over 20 countries. Many of the performances and musicians who contribute to these events will only be known 24 hours before the event itself.

Kazuki Sawa

Kazuki Sawa graduated from the Tokyo Geidai (Tokyo University of the Arts) with a Master of Arts degree and the Premier Prix 'Ataka Award', before studying with György Pauk and Béla Katona in London. He has won a number of prizes at international competitions with his pianist wife, Emiko Tadenuma, as well as the Ysaÿe Medal from the Ysaÿe Foundation of Belgium, and a Gold Medal at the 1979 Bordeaux Festival.

Astghik Vardanyan (violin)

Astghik Vardanyan was born in Yerevan, Armenia in 1983. Following her concerto debut at the age of 13, (Max Bruch Violin Concerto No 1), she joined a young soloists group and travelled to Europe, the USA and Canada on concert tours. She later studied with her father's teacher Jean Ter-Merguerian in France. In 2001 she won first prize in the Chilingirian All-Armenian Competition and from 2005 she studied with Levon Chilingirian at the RCM.

Yuko Inoue

Winner of the 17th Budapest International Viola Competition, Yuko Inoue has performed as soloist throughout Europe and Japan with many orchestras, including the Hungarian State Philharmonic Orchestra, Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, the Hallé Orchestra and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and with such eminent musicians as Gidon Kremer, Sir Charles Groves, György Pauk, Jean-Jacques Kantorow, Heinrich Schiff and Thomas Zehetmair.

Emma Ferrand

Winner of the NFMS Young Concert Artist Award, Emma Ferrand came to notice playing the Elgar concerto in Paul Tortelier's BBC2 masterclass series. She travels widely as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician and broadcasts frequently. She has appeared at Wigmore Hall, the South Bank, and in many festivals. She has a long-standing association with LDSM and its International Summer School.
