Handel Acis and Galatea (semi-staged)

The Brook Street Band

An idyllic love between Acis, the shepherd, and Galatea, the sea nymph, is shattered when Acis is brutally murdered by a huge boulder thrown by the jealous Sicilian Cyclops Polyphemus. Distraught, Galatea transforms his blood into the fl owing river Acis. Handel’s sense of drama and fl owing melodies bring this legend to life on the shores of Derwentwater.
