The Archos Quartet is a Polish string quartet, founded in November 2009 at the Musikhochschule Lübeck. The Quartet has participated in many courses and masterclasses and has been particularly fortunate to have worked with members of the Alban Berg Quartet, Belcea Quartet, Chilingirian Quartet, Cuarteto Casals, Endellion Quartet, Henschel Quartett, Kuss Quartett, Melos Quartet, Sirius String Quartet, Škampa Quartet and Kwartet Wieniawski. It has also been coached by many eminent musicians: Schmuel Ashkenasi, Christiane Edinger, Eberhard Feltz, Ralf Gothoni, Carlos Johnson, Matthew Jones, Carole Presland, Andre Roy, Naomi Seiler, Milan Škampa, Barry Snyder, Alasdair Tait and Ulf Tischbirek.
It gained early professional experience performing in the Barbican Hall, with the Berliner Ensemble and during the Hugo Wolf Symposium Stuttgart and Oberstdorfer Musiksommer Festival and it has been broadcast by German Radio SWR. Lake District Summer Music has played a key part in its development: it has performed here, and studied at our International Summer Music Academy, each year since 2010.
It has performed together with the Chilingirian Quartet, violist Stefan Fehlandt and pianists Misako Osada and Joanne Camilleri, and collaborated with many living composers such as Dmitri Terzakis, Daniel Schnyder, Marina Khorkova and Jonathan Bell.
After its participation at the Chilingirian Quartet Summer School at West Dean College, the Archos Quartet was awarded Quartet Residency in 2011. It is also a prize winner at the Val Tidone International Chamber Music Competition 'Tina Orsi Anguissola Scotti' in Italy in 2012. It has received many scholarships from foundations such as the DAAD Stipendium, Péter Horváth-Stiftung, Rotary Club, Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Foundation and DOMS-Stiftung Basel.
After studies with Heime Müller (Artemis Quartet) and members of the Vogler Quartet, since April 2011 the Quartet has been studying at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart (Master Study Programme, Chamber Music, String Quartet), where it is working with Gerhard Schulz (Alban Berg Quartet), Stefan Fehlandt (Vogler Quartet) and Peter Buck (Melos Quartet). Recently it has been awarded a Guildhall Artists Fellowship 2013/14 at the Guildhall School of Music in London and has been invited to perform in the 2014 City of London Festival and the Salzburg Chamber Music Festival 2014.
