Dramma per Musica seeks the drama that is possible only through music; the confluence of emotion and reason through sound and language. That search has led it to the Italian, and Italianate, works of the 17th century, where composers and librettists sought classical models of musical expression and theatre and created the first dramma per musica, or 'drama through music'. The group’s core team consists of chitarrone, viola da gamba and voice; expanding to suit the dramatic demands of each programme. The group was founded in 2018 and had its début performance at the Brighton Early Music Festival as part of the BREMF Live! Young Artist Scheme 2018/19. Performances for the 2019/20 season include a return to Brighton and recitals at Hampton Court’s Chapel Royal and St John’s Smith Square.
