Visit

An inspiration to world famous poets, thinkers, painters ... and filmmakers!

The location has long been a source of inspiration for many of our greatest creative artists. Wordsworth's Dove Cottage in Grasmere and his home at Rydal Mount are both within easy reach. Meanwhile, Abbot Hall and Blackwell exhibit some of the great painted heritage of the Lakes.

Enjoy the world's most beautiful countryside (as proven by German scientists!)

The region's outstanding natural beauty juxtaposing lakes and fells surely makes the Young String Venture one of the best located summer schools in the world.

Leave the car behind...

...and let the world famous Mountain Goat company take you right into the heart of this thrilling landscape. Subject to numbers, a group guided walk can be arranged. For those with an interest in gardens there are many places to explore. Levens Hall, Holker Hall and Sizergh Castle should all be on your list.

Sample some great local food and drink

There are many great places to eat throughout the area. We highly recommend Lucy's on a Plate in Ambleside (our advice is work from the pudding menu backwards!) Explore the trail around Low Sizergh  Farm then visit the 18th century barn to browse local and speciality foods (and see the cows being milked!). Look out for the world famous Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding and Sarah Nelson's Grasmere Gingerbread.
