LDSM announces Academy’s new home on shores of Windermere
Friday, 11 November 2011

Lake District Summer Music has today announced that its International Summer Music Academy (ISMA) is moving from July 2012 to the inspiring campus of Brathay Hall on the shores of Windermere.
Brathay Hall, an impressive 18th Century Georgian House, sits at the north end of Lake Windermere. Behind the beautifully designed façade the elegant reception rooms once entertained the likes of Wordsworth, Coleridge and the world renowned landscape artist John Constable. Today, the Hall and the surrounding land is used by Brathay Trust, a national charity that specialises in engaging, training and inspiring young people - values which have been at the very heart of LDSM since it was founded in 1985.
Renna Kellaway MBE, Founder & Artistic Director of LDSM, says: 'There is no substitute for live music! It speaks, communicates, and touches all in totally individual ways. In a world dominated by the consumption of music at the end of a digital connection, sustaining the vitality and creativity of music-making in front of your eyes and ears seems ever more essential. This exciting new Brathay campus for our Academy breathes a rare and inspiring atmosphere. We look forward to expanding its potential in the future.'
ISMA 2012 will run from 30 July to 11 August. It will offer daily coaching for ensembles and instrumentalists by some of the world's leading tutors and performing artists. Dedicated LDSM Young Artist festival concerts and public masterclasses will bear witness to the work of the Academy and the inspiration of Brathay. This synergy of education and performance, young artists and world class masters, has become a distinctive hallmark of LDSM over 27 years.
LDSM international artists and faculty tutors will be announced later in the year.
