LDSM announces International Festival artist line-up for 2011

Monday, 24 January 2011

Lake District Summer Music has today announced some of the International artists and ensembles who will be performing at their 2011 International Festival. This year's programme runs from 29 July to 14 August. A full programme will be available on this website from midnight on 9 April.

The very best of chamber music remains at the heart of LDSM with the Chilingirian Quartet - celebrating their 40th year, and the Kuss Quartet in a return which will be popular with our audiences.

Amongst others they will be joined in concert by clarinettist Timothy Orpen, Japanese violinist Kazuki Sawa, and LDSM's Artistic Associate Garfield Jackson.

Hear renowned cellist Robert Cohen and pianist Benjamin Frith in a duo collaboration which had its roots at LDSM two years ago. And Gregor Horsch, recitalist and principal cellist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, returns to delights us.

Hear old friends and new. Steven Osborne comes fresh from BBC Proms and Edinburgh Festival, and will bring us the music of Schubert, Ravel and Rachmaninov, whilst there's a LDSM Festival debut for Simon Lepper. Andrew Brownell joins us for a second year following his outstanding recital and collaboration with the Skampa Quartet in 2010.

Given the vagaries of the British weather, La Serenissima will cover all the bases with a certain well-known work of Vivaldi, plus some new-found rarities. Sophie Yates performs harpsichord music arising from the French Revolution, and The Clerks bring their unique and engaging presentational flair to LDSM.

Music Theatre features strongly again with an RNCM Opera Gala performance, which includes Menotti's hilarious The Telephone, whilst Vox Animae present Purcell's Dido and Aeneas.

Oh, and there's a major celebrity recital to be heard on Saturday 30 July, but it's such a hot ticket that listing it on here might cause our new website to go up in flames!

Return to this website from midnight on 9 April to learn the full programme.
