From 2017 Lake District Summer Music is excited to announce a significant development in its ongoing historic commitment to bringing forward young talent alongside major international chamber musicians.
In response to a changing musical landscape and in discussion with leading educators, we will have a specific strand of Young Artist Début Recitals threaded through the festival as an integral element, programmed thematically as part of the whole. Initially we will work with partners such as the Royal Over-Seas League, the Tillett Trust, the Countess of Munster Recital Scheme and The Musicians' Company to select the best young artists coming forward. These young artists will also be offered solo and/or ensemble coaching with the professional artists appearing at the festival, plus public or private masterclasses, and the opportunity to attend concerts of their choice. This new initiative has been made possible with the support of the Patrons of LDSM and the Stephen Bell Trust.
From 2018 we intend to organise an intensive spring course, 'LDSM Springboard', for selected young performers, the best of whom will then be guaranteed a professional platform at that summer's festival.
A further development will be a closer relationship with the Patrons' Concert Series given each spring in Ambleside, to include schools workshops streamed to schools across Cumbria in collaboration with the Cumbria Music Hub.
