American pianist Thomas Sauer makes his LDSM debut along with the welcome return of
British cellist Colin Carr on a fascinating and illuminating journey through Beethoven's complete works for cello and piano in two concerts.

Following on from Brahms's C minor Piano Quartet in Friday's concert is another work which was inspired by the love of the same woman - Clara Wieck - but this time by the man who was become her husband: Robert Schumann. Performed by Wendy Dawn Thompson, accomplished opera star and recitalist and former winner of the Kathleen Ferrier and Royal Over-Seas League competitions, makes her second visit to LDSM.

So inspired were the Gould Piano Trio by Benjamin Wallfisch's Piano Quartet, commissioned by LDSM for the 2006 Festival and performed to much acclaim from a packed audience, that they immediately asked Ben to write another work for them. Programmed with the rarely-heard Bartók Contrasts for violin, clarinet and piano, and two of the greatest works of the piano trio repertoire, this concert promises to be another remarkable experience.
