Hear some of the world’s leading musicians and ensembles performing great repertoire

Hear leading international artists perform “the world’s most beautiful music” intimate and live in daytime, evening and late night concerts. Hear new collaborations on some of the best-known works of classical music. Get under the skin of great musicians and hear their thoughts on musical performance in our Masterclass Series and pre-concert talks.

Be amongst the first to hear the next generation of professionals

LDSM annually showcases emerging talent from some 20 countries every year. Past young artists heard in specially dedicated concerts include violinists Nicola Benedetti and Nicolaj Znaider, cellists Alice Neary and Hannah Roberts, pianists Steven Osborne and Carole Presland and ensembles such as the Belcea and Sacconi quartets.

Something for all tastes young and old

With our heart in chamber music, there is something to suit everyone in the International Festival 2009: Gala orchestral concerts, popular favourites, world and UK premieres, early music, family-friendly events, one of the world’s most famous storytellers, an art exhibition, and much more.

This year's festival features a Haydn Gala Celebration with the Northern Chamber Orchestra, Rossini's Barber of Seville with the Armonico Consort, Henry VIII and English Genius with early music vocal ensemble The Cardinall's Musick and performances from artists such as Chaconne Brass, Chilingirian Quartet, Nelson Goerner, Christoph Richter, Trio di Parma, Florilegium and many more. As usual there will be a selection of concerts featuring LDSM Young Artists, drawn from students within our International Summer Music Academy, including popular events such as our Menuhin Concert and Candlelight Serenade.
